Our History
The current building was constructed as a funeral home in 1980. It sits on nearly four acres with frontage along Old West Highway. The new owners acquired the property in April of this year. From April 23 through June 15, extensive remodeling, repair and renovation went into the building to give it a fresh new look. The funeral home passed inspection by the Arizona State Board of Funeral Directors & Embalmers and was given a license to open on June 15, 2010. For those of you not familiar with the area, our name comes from the beautiful Superstition Mountains located just east of the funeral home. We have a great view of the mountains from here and invite you to come share the experience.
Our Founders
The owners of Superstition Funeral Home have a combined 30+ years of experience in the funeral industry. Albert M. Coury III (Al) is a native of Arizona and his family has been involved in the funeral home and cemetery business since 1951. Al began his funeral career working with his family fifteen years ago. During that time, he earned his insurance license, cemetery broker license, and Cremationist license. Al did almost every job available with his family. He started mowing grass and digging graves then went on to assist with funerals and pre-arrangements, later becoming the sales manager and eventually general manager of the entire business. He remained general manager until his departure from the family business.
Timothy J. Kropp Jr. (TJ) began his funeral career fifteen years ago at a local town funeral home in Ohio. He also did almost every job available at the funeral home. He began mowing grass and shoveling snow, then went on to assist with funerals and other behind-the-scenes work. TJ then moved to Arizona to attend mortuary school and graduated in 1999, going on to become a licensed funeral director, embalmer and Cremationist.
Al and TJ met in 2002 and worked together for seven years, and they decided that they would make good partners. After reviewing several options and locations, they chose to re-open the funeral home in Apache Junction. They are both very familiar with the community and wanted to give the residents a fresh new funeral home.
Our Future
Superstition Funeral Home is looking forward to a long future in Apache Junction. We are currently working with area churches, organizations and businesses to become involved in community activities. In the near future, we hope to not only participate in these activities but to create and organize events as well. There are plans to utilize areas of our property that are currently vacant and to expand the building and parking areas. We hope to add sidewalks, trees and lighting to further enhance the appearance of the neighborhood. We are also open to suggestions from the local residents. If you have an idea or wish to share your thoughts with us, please let us know.
Our Goal
Our goal here at Superstition Funeral Home is to provide the absolute best funeral experience to the families that we serve. We want to make the funeral arranging process as easy as possible and leave you with wonderful memories of your loved one's final tribute.
