Our Story
Hi All,
We have found ourseleves on another journey, here with our new shop “On The Road Again”. What led us here is our constant quest for bargain hunting, merchandising, decorating with one-of-a-kind items and meeting people. This is not our first time at retailing, so let us fill you in on what led us down this road…
We have been co-workers and friends since 1993. We were drawn to find an avenue to express our creativity away from the office…we landed on fabric and quilts and realized that we could join forces and build a Quilting fabric and supply shop and wanted to create a shop that was warm and welcoming, Threadneedle Street was born…
Why call it Threadneedle Street? The answer was simple…this street is the street in London that houses the Bank of England, we liked that association to money in the bank. One of us is a huge Beatle’s fan and the name sounded very Beatle-esch. Our tag line was “On the Road to Creativity”.
In September of 1997 we started to look for a place to open a Quilting fabric and Supply store when we saw the old yellow farm house in historic Orland Park with a For Sale sign. We could not get to a phone fast enough to call the number and see the property…well what happened next was we owned our first commercial property by October 1997. This was a very large step since now we needed to get the property ready and get our initial merchandise and get the shop up and running!
No small task, we sanded, painted, busted up and old tub, rebuilt walls and were ready to open by mid May 1998. We were ready to embark On the Road to Creativity. Over the 8 ½ years we were open we collected a very large customer base and were quite successful. We held outdoor annual quilt show every labor day weekend, we had auctions, retreats, barbeque’s in the yard, you name it, and we tried it. We decided to close our doors in July 2006, when we just were out of steam…To run a quilt shop you have to offer classes and create samples to continue to inspire your customers. Not an easy task.
We took a break and rented the building for 2 years, to Village Unlimited that specialized in Department 56 villages and he also had a large selection of gift items. When they moved out in May of 2009 we tried renting.
Here is where our NEW journey begins…
After a few months, several prospects, but no renters we started brainstorming. We already had a trip planned to go to Sisters, Oregon and the Washington coast, this would be the perfect opportunity to get a business plan in order. With days of sight seeing mixed with treasure hunting we landed on a consignment shop. We are On The Road Again and so are the treasures you will find within our little yellow shop on the corner. Looking forward to meeting you and help you find that treasure you have been looking for…
