Beware if hanging lights by seanranel on 8/23/2019
out of 5 starsMy experience is with Gabe the owner. He was very personable and nice but more importantly attentive and responsive to communication. We needed to have string lights put up in our backyard so we contacted Home Advisor who referred us to GRO Landscaping. Gabe came out, assessed our backyard, told us what supplies he needed, we procured the supplies, Gabe did his thing, we were satisfied with the finished product, Gabe was paid and that was that. Before Gabe left I made sure to ask how long his work was warrantied for in case anything happens after he leaves. Gabe said 90 days. A few weeks go by, I look into the backyard and see one of the strings of lights has fallen down, the bulbs were glass so some of them shattered all over the concrete as well as into the pool, no good with five children under the age of 10 in the home. I immediately reached out to Gabe and sent him a picture. This was on Thursday August 1st. He says he'll be by around 5:45 that day. Ok sounds good. He shows up about 6:30, re-hangs the fallen string of lights(and at least tried to clean up some of the broken glass so kudos for that) and says he'll come back over the weekend to put in a longer screen. I guess the one he used initially was too short and detached itself from the tree. Two weekends came and went, so about 10 days and no word from Gabe. I knows he's the owner so he's probably busy, giving him the benefit of the doubt. So I text him on August 14th asking when he'll be coming by to insert the longer screw like he said he would do along with a pic of the same string of lights that fell before but are now hanging low because the short screw is still in plus one of the other strings of lights is now not working because it became unplugged once the other string connected to it started hanging low. He replies that he will be over the next day, August 15th at 4pm. At 6:41pm on August 15th I reach out to Gabe since I hadn't heard anything asking if he's still coming, no reply. I text him again the next morning, August 16th at 10:30am asking when he'll be able to come by and if it could be sooner rather than later so as to not have the string completely fall again causing more shattered glass. He replies at 4:07pm the same day apologizing for the previous day but that's he's at the house now to repair the string of lights. This time I'm not home but I trusted he would do what he said he would do. He NEVER added the longer screws and he essentially just wrapped the string of lights around a tree branch tightly instead of attaching it back to the tree with a long screw. I reach out to him literally right then with a picture of me standing on the ground while raising my hand up into the air and grabbing the string of lights, that's how low the string of lights were left and the other string of lights is still out. All of this was on the 16th of August, I hear nothing from Gabe. I reach out again on August 21st with another pic showing the small screw literally hanging down in front of the tree and asking about the longer screw he himself said he was going to do, no reply. At this point my patience has worn off so on August 22nd I let him know I'd like him to come by at some point in the next 24hrs otherwise I'll find someone else to come fix what he couldn't do. Now all of a sudden he has something to say which was..."I put the screw back and also changed the wire, I have a lot of things to do. I don't have time to go over there everyday and make small adjustments. After I fixed the screw you immediately asked for something else, I am not your puppet"
No one asked for adjustments or anything more than what he was paid to do which was hang string lights in the backyard that actually stay up for a sustained period of time. All of this was over text message so if I'm allowed to upload screenshots I will. Looking back Gabe was obviously new to hanging lights and didn't use the proper screws for the length of string he was tasked with hanging. I would not recommend GRO for anything regarding hanging lights. Beware.Copyright 2026 EZlocal.com, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
