Founding Farmers DC, our award-winning flagship restaurant, opened in 2008 just three blocks from the White House. Open 365 days a year, we craft dishes and drinks from scratch, using high-quality ingredients from farmers we know and trust. As a restaurant majority-owned by American family farmers, including over 50,000 from the North Dakota Farmers Union, our philosophy is simple: we see and share everything Through The Eyes Of The Farmer. Join us for breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekday happy hour, or our a la carte weekend brunch. Our LEED Gold Certified space features unique seating options, including communal dining tables and silo-shaped booths, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and community. More Like A Bar with Food by 4Progress1 on 10/14/2010 via The Washington Post

Young and Hip. Cocktails made with eyedroppers, foreign microbrews, gourmet popcorn and a tree hugger's dream interior give this place some panache. However it really lacks Bar space. In fact I wish the bar was triple it's current size.…

Sustainable Food at a decent price by Krista Lundberg on 8/31/2010 via Citysearch

Let me start off by saying I am so happy that I have now found my absolute favorite restaurant in D.C. When dinning for my birthday recently I decided to try Founding Farmers after hearing rave reviews from everyone that has dined there…

Sooo BAD! by clind39897 on 7/16/2010 via The Washington Post

Oh my. Please don't make the mistake we made. There are restaurants that are lacking in one area or another. This one missed the boat on every front. I can not remember being so disappointed. The worst part was the total lack of concern…

dissappointment here by lisaswanson on 6/23/2010 via The Washington Post

I thought I had waited until the kinks were out to try FF. I sat at the bar. The bartender did not know the ingredients of one of the featured cocktails, so I chose beer, which came warm. The vegetable burger was mushy and served on a…

How bad can it be? by LovesFood39202 on 6/16/2010 via Menuism

This is one dining experience you want to AVOID. I could not believe that they did not have anyone to help...

Worst Experience by clind39897 on 6/16/2010 via The Washington Post

Never, never before have I had an experience this bad. They lost my reservation, seating was aweful, service (lol) there was a complete lack of service and oh....the food. I sent one item back three times. Finally, I just refused it.…

Greatness in sustainable form by Adam Renz on 4/25/2010 via Citysearch

The menu is very diverse, and of all the things we ordered at the table, 99% of it exceeded our expectations. I especially like the corn bread appetizer that contained pieces of corn in it, and my entree of the slow braised beef short ribs…

Citysearch Editorial Review by Elyse Moody on 4/5/2010 via Citysearch

The name says it all. Just blocks from the house of our founders (the White House, that is), sits this modern-day approximation of farmhouse. The downstairs dining room has the expected rough-hewn farm tables but also cheeky touches like…

eric20008 by ericlee on 3/12/2010 via The Washington Post

Everything was decent - EXCEPT the food. A thick pork chop was overcooked and dry, barely better than cardboard. Mashed potatoes were blandly ordinary, and vegetables perfunctory. Pot roast was likewise overcooked and undistinguished. I…

Too "Special" by rbrodiga on 1/21/2010 via The Washington Post

First, we waited an half hour beyond our reservation while tables sat empty (which we had to point out). The waiter kept telling us how special and fantastic and sustainable everything was. We waited (and waited) for a bottle of wine. Once…

Best in Comfort Food by Lisa Mathias on 1/20/2010 via Citysearch

Founding Farmers is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in DC, their food being the major part of their winning equation, plus a unique and extensive drink menu as well as great service with every visit. My staple here is the…

Slow Service, Great Chicken & Waffle! by lalalaura_02 on 1/13/2010 via The Washington Post

I agree with many other reviewers who say the service is slow. Despite being open and busy for well over a year, FF can't seem to manage reservations and provide adequate wait staff. However, the drinks are delicious and after sampling…

Fresh but Flawed by Tom Sietsema on 5/31/2009 via The Washington Post

Just because farmers own a restaurant doesn't mean the food tastes great By Tom Sietsema Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, May 31, 2009 Founding Farmers deserves a big round of applause for turning trash into treasure. Designed to meet…
