Tampa Electric Company is an investor-owned electric utility that was incorporated in 1899. It serves in an area of more than 2,000 square miles, including Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties in Florida. The company operates more than five electric plants and utilizes a transmission and distribution system. Tampa Electric Company has over 4,000 megawatts of generating capacity and provides reliable power and value-added energy services to over 667,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. It is a principal subsidiary of TECO Energy, which is an integrated energy-related holding company that serves the utility sector and is complemented by a family of unregulated businesses. Tampa Electric Company is a regulated utility with electric and gas divisions and offers waterborne transportation, coal and independent power services.
