I was born with a congenital heart defect, so I was essentially born with an interest in cardiology and pursued that interest to med school and beyond. Cardiac surgery requires a whole team, including anesthesiologists, physician assistants and nurses. As the surgeon, I have a responsibility to bring everyone together in the operating room to accomplish a common goal.
