Nestled amidst the hustle and bustle of Bloomfield Avenue lies the Cloverleaf Tavern, a well-established staple in Caldwell, New Jersey. It is currently the oldest business in town. George Dorchak Jr. founded the Cloverleaf Tavern in 1933. George was 23 years old when he borrowed money from his uncle to purchase the first liquor license in Caldwell after prohibition. The building at the time consisted of two stores: a vegetable stand and a bakery. The bakery was called The Bake Shop with a shamrock as it’s logo. This is where George got the idea for the name of his Tavern. In 1940, George made an election bet that won him a ride down Bloomfield Ave in a wheelbarrow. That’s right! The gentleman pushing the wheelbarrow (who remains unidentified today) lost the bet. Watch this amazing video below of George being pushed from the “flats” of Caldwell to Central Avenue.

Good beer list by Ryan A on 1/8/2009 via Insider Pages

This is absolutely my favorite place in the Caldwell area. Their ribs literally fall right off the bone and they have one of the best beer selections in the neighborhood. Great for dinner or for a few drinks after work.

Cloverleaf Tavern by Elizabeth D on 1/3/2009 via Insider Pages

I love Cloverleaf Tavern. This is where I go when I meet up with friends from high school. It's close to home and has great food and great people. I have never had a bad experience here.

Local please by Kelly S on 3/16/2008 via Insider Pages

This is a great place for pub fare and for locals to stop in and get a drink. There are pool tables and darts and many of the local college students stop by to hear bands play. A real tavern, not quiet or quaint.

Burgers and Beer by Leanne H on 3/2/2008 via Insider Pages

Known by the locals for their burgers and wings, they offer bar seating and restaurant style seating. They also offer a unique program where you can earn your M.B.A in beer! Its atmosphere is friendly and inviting.
