Since 1979, Ballet Academy East has been a vibrant center for dance on Manhattan?s Upper East Side. In 1978, Julia Dubno, the founder and director of Ballet Academy East was selected by Christine Fokine to run the Fokine Ballet School. That experience led to the opening of Ballet Academy East in a brownstone on East 79th Street with one small studio in 1979.Today the school has five spacious studios, a world-renowned faculty and continues to flourish. Miss Dubno continues to manage the day-to-day operations and is in close contact with the faculty and staff in order to be kept abreast of all areas of the school. The Pre-Professional Division, led by artistic director, Darla Hoover, and a stellar faculty, which includes Charles Askegard, Maxim Beloserkovsky, Cynthia Birdwell, Olga Dvorovenko, Peter Frame, Jenna Lavin, Joseph Malbrough, Tara Mora, Francis Patrelle, Elizabeth Walker, Wendy Whelan and Cheryl Yeager, prepares dancers for professional ballet careers. Alumni of BAE are currently performing in companies across the country, including New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, BalletMet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Ballet Memphis, Alabama Ballet, Kansas City Ballet and Los Angeles Ballet.The faculty of BAE is made up of brilliantly gifted and inspiring instructors who come from many different backgrounds. Most have danced in major companies throughout the world and have many years of teaching experience and a vast knowledge of their craft. The faculty for the Young Dancers Division is made up of experienced, creative, high energy teachers, particularly dedicated to the art of pre-ballet and creative movement. Many of these very gifted faculty members have degrees in dance as well as extensive performing experience. The Pre-Professional faculty is made up of gifted and nurturing teachers who are devoted to raising the next generation of professional dancers. The artistry and technical knowledge that the BAE faculty possesses is without measure. The Open Adult class division faculty is made up teachers from many different backgrounds and styles. All have danced professionally and every one of them are incredibly enthusiastic about teaching all ages and levels of ability.
