The seafood goes with the Bay views, but turf entrees such as rock salt roasted prime rib are also fair bets. Don't pass up the drink list---it features a variety of cocktails and international wines. Read Full Editorial
My Review by michaels1628739783 via Citysearch on 7/21/2012
On a clear day or night, the view is sensational. The food is expensive and unexceptional, but not awful. Service has always been excellent.
Going, going, gone... by Chef Eileen via Citysearch on 5/26/2011
Recently 7 members of my family and I lunched at Skates on the Bay. I was a little apprehensive, as my last two meals weren't appetizing, but Skates is a great halfway point for us all to meet. 4 of us ordered the crabcakes, served with…
Good Seafood by L L via Insider Pages on 1/3/2009
Skates On The Bay is pleasantly located overlooking the bay. The atmosphere is pleasant, the food is good but a little pricey, but I guess you're paying for the view.
Overrated by Dave411 via Citysearch on 11/13/2008
One of the most overrated resto in the Bay Area... purportedly with great views, but on a foggy night (which happens quite often) you wont see anything. Everything was expensive, and my duck was too salty, too tough, and too greasy.
My Favorite Place for Fun Food, Drinks, and Sunset... by Mia C via Insider Pages on 9/27/2008
Skates has been one of my favorite place for food, drinks, and sunset... There is a pier right next to the restaurant you can walk on and appreciate the view of the bay... Love it!

The food is just as good as the view! The salmon is delicious!
No Follow Through by davewhill via Citysearch on 10/21/2007
This is to follow up on an earlier review. We ate at Skates on Sept. 3, 2007 and had a very poor experience which we detailed in that review ('Nightmarish Experience for Newlyweds'. )\r

Very Un-Special Service for Newlyweds by tzylla via Citysearch on 9/6/2007
They provided a nightmarish & very un-special experience for newlyweds!! Skates has been a favorite of ours for years & we decided it would be perfect for our first "married" dinner out. We made our reservations more than a week ahead…
Great sushi by jaimi_d via Citysearch on 8/28/2007
Yes the ahi tuna sushi is fantastic. The service was very unsatisfactory. When our server served us,she very sarcasticly said "Enjoy!" Then, directly after our dishes were delivered, the young lady who served us went up to another waitress…

Horrible Service, Great Appetizers, $$$ by yumm_05 via Citysearch on 11/26/2006
We had reservations so we got seated right away, but it took the server over 25 minutes to acknowledge us. Ordered the Skates Classic Sampler and it was great, but the price not so much. For $21 you were able to have a taste of three…
great views, but EXPENSIVE by bruingirl14 via Citysearch on 11/18/2006
The food here is decent, but way too expensive.... you could find better seafood in the Bay Area for much less money. The view is beautiful, but not worth the prices. The decor could use an update.
Great view and service, good food by rsak via Citysearch on 10/31/2006
Obviously you're coming here for the view. I've been here several times, and the service has been great. Each server has been attentive but not overbearing. Would be better if they personally knew the menu in detail and could make definite…
Poor service, cold food - you're paying for the view (in more ways than one) by sgp2006 via Citysearch on 10/15/2006
We arrived to find they'd lost our reservation (they blamed their computer - don't they always?). They kept us waiting in the bar for almost 45 minutes for a table, even though there were clearly plenty of tables free when we did finally…
Why settle for average? by msroser via Citysearch on 6/3/2006
The food at Skates is on par with room service at any Marriott-type hotel in any midsize city in the US. If you're a foodie, stay away. Yes, the view is fantastic. But that's about all Skates has to offer that is in any way different. For…
Nice View All Around by robg3176 via Citysearch on 4/13/2006
Nice view all around. My fiance took me there for my birthday the first time, and we had a great seat by the water, though it was busy. But the waiter was nice, and the Prawns with rice and veges were great. The second time, we sat…
nice view by rachel r. via Judy's Book on 3/28/2006
People go to Skates for the wonderful waterfront view; it is worth it. This is a great destination for a romatic evening or a special occasion. The entrees are pricy. It has a vert meat-centric menu, but they are always willing to whip…
