Henry’s Hunan is a family-owned business that started back in 1974 by Henry and Diana Chung. When the pair began missing the flavors of their hometown, they recreated its signature dishes and wanted to share it with the world. Today, its success is shown through many locations scattered around San Francisco— each independently owned and operated. The Natoma location is run by Henry’s grandson, Frank.

Being closer to the hustle and bustle of downtown, this location is a busier lunchtime spot than, say, the Noe Valley venue. But the menu that's made Henry's an SF classic stays on par: giant plates of noodles, smoked meats (made on… Read Full Editorial

Henry's Hunan on Natoma St. by Adit via Citysearch on 4/7/2010

I was disappointed after eating at this restaurant. There is really nothing to recommend it apart from the fact that service is fast and food is relatively cheap. The food was clearly not prepared fresh and it showed in taste. The ambiance…

Henry's Hunan Restaurant by Maryann S via Insider Pages on 9/21/2009

The food here has lots of flavor and very tasty...the have the best onion cakes and pork dishes..it tends to get packed during lunch but it's good.I would recommend this place

Spicy Chinese Food by ed94105 via Citysearch on 5/4/2009

Henry's Hunan is one of the best Chinese restraunts in the city. You will love it if you like your food spicy. They are always packed at lunch. They offer speedy delivery.

Hunan On Autopilot by invidia via Citysearch on 11/12/2008

For two years I've lived in Shanghai, China, the city that gathers the best chefs from the China's provinces at its highly competitive dining scene. I had low expectations for this restaurant. Hunanese do not emigrate; predictably, staff…

Best Hunan Food in SF - Period!! by bam924 via Citysearch on 4/5/2008

I am a native San Franciscan, so I don't say this lightly: Henry's is THE BEST Chinese food in the City, Hunan or otherwise. My favorite meal, that I might request on my way to the gas chamber, is Garlic Chicken over white rice. I have…

The Michael Jordan of Hunan Cuisine. by dan_rather via Citysearch on 11/10/2006

I don't even know how to begin. Henry's Hunan is by far, the best chinese (hunan style) food in SF....and probably the U.S. How am I so confident? Every single visitor, friend, acquaintance, boss, wife, mistress have all confirmed my…

Call ahead at lunch by resren via Citysearch on 10/26/2006

The single only complaint at lunch time is that it's too popular. Call ahead if you're in a hurry and order. They'll fax you a menu. I can't think of a single other negative thing to say. The hot/sour soup is simply the best, the tastes…

Greatest Hunan Cuisine in USA by ronaldreaganruinedusa via Citysearch on 5/5/2005

Phenomenal Food. Great service. Staff treats regular customers like family. The first restaurant my out of town relative seek out when visiting SF is Henry's. You have to like spicy food to appreciate Henry's. If you do-there is nowhere…

Wasted my lunch hour, starving by ishen via Citysearch on 12/2/2004

I like the food at the place, but the service was pretty terrible. I wasted my lunch hour waiting there with a friend and then left an hour later hungry.

tasty by robertsandler via Citysearch on 7/5/2003

excellent, tasty, and spicy hunan food. go later - you'll wait a long time for a lunch table. also, go with a group because portions are huge and you'll want to share.

Mmmmmmmmmm by lisabagg via Citysearch on 4/7/2003

Henry's is simply one of the best, cheapest, most tasty restaurants around. It gets super busy at lunchtime, and your service will probably be lousy, but you will get a great Chinese meal that will have you finding yourself waiting in line…

The worst service of all by cdaguila via Citysearch on 1/31/2003

Even the good is excellent, the service is the worst I have ever seen. Last time I went, I waited one hour and a half for my order which never came, I had to go back to work so I had to leave the place without eating. I also noticed that a…

Good food with GREAT service! by pamela_wu02 via Citysearch on 11/18/2002

Best Hunan cuisine I've had in a long time. Perfectly located downtown for those that work and need a quick but delicious lunch!!! This is my favorite location...and I've tried all of them except the one on Sacramento St. Thats the next on…

Americanized Chinese food by hsiaoyin via Citysearch on 11/6/2002

Americanized Chinese food...too salty...even the fried rice is bad.. Most dishes taste like Panda Express. The service can be very slow depending on what you have ordered, so be prepare for a 20 min. wait.

Hot and sour heaven by scroddum via Citysearch on 7/24/2002

One of the best spicy Hunan restaurants in the bay area (if not *the* best). Hot and sour soup, meat pie, hot and sour beef, curry chicken are all spicy favorites. Rumor has it ex-Henry's employees spun off Brandy Ho's and Hunan Taste in…

Hot and sour soup lovers unite by jssteel via Citysearch on 7/1/2002

I don't know how many places boast that they have the best hot and sour soup, but Henry's is the only place that can make that claim and know it's true. Their Henry's Special Noodles are out of this world even if you take them home and…
