Owners Melissa and Joseph Basilone moved their family to Portage Park in 2007, and as they watched the economic crisis affect the neighborhood with foreclosures, empty storefronts and job loss, they decided that they could do something about it. At Thrift & Thrive, neighbors and friends now have the opportunity to choose affordable, gently used clothing and goods. They feel that by reusing and recycling, people have an opportunity to decrease their spending, have a greater appreciation for their possessions, and in general tend to thrive.
