What is mead exactly? The history of mead goes back as far as 7000 B.C. and was considered the "nectar of the gods" by the ancient Greeks. While mead is made from honey, water, and yeast, our modern mead is nothing like the mead king Midas used to swig from his golden goblets. Mead of the past was thick, syrupy, and very sweet. HoneyMaker mead, made locally in Portland, Maine, is the mead of the 21st Century: crisp, dry, refreshing, and goes down as smooth as wine.

Maine Mead Works currently offers three products for sale and consumption. HoneyMaker is mead created from our recipe of wildflower honey, water, and fermented with a wild strain of South African yeast. HoneyMaker comes in a variety of classic and seasonal flavors and styles, from lavender mead to apple cyser.

Ram Island is a line of 6.9% ABV session meads available on tap at local bars in New England and available in 500mL bottles. Try a Lavender Lemonade or Ice Tea Mead today!

CiderMaker is a dry style cider crafted with fresh-pressed Maine McIntosh apples, resulting in a 4.5% ABV.

Drop by the meadery to pick up a bottle of your favorite mead or try a tasting or tour!
