About UsOur business was founded in November, 1945 when Freelan Bartlett purchased the home from Eugenia Ellenburg, a well respected piano and organ instructor, at 312 N. Park Street. Mr. Bartlett had worked for many years with the Oehlers and Howland Funeral Service and Furniture Store in downtown Reedsburg. Mr. Bartlett founded the business on one thought and one directionto serve the needs of this community in an honest manner, with trained and dignified personnel. From December, 1952 until August, 1953 the business was run by Glen Schreier. The business was purchased by Herve Phelps, who operated it until December, 1961. It was then run by George Hare of New Lisbon until June, 1963 when it was purchased by James Hammer. Mr. Hammer then operated the Hammer Funeral Home until December, 1986 when the current owner, Mark Hoof, purchased the business. The Hoof Funeral Home continues to serve the families in the greater Reedsburg area with the same philosophy as that of Mr. Freelan Bartlett, some sixty years ago. We will continue to perpetuate the ideals on which the business was founded. We also believe that creating a meaningful, appropriate and affordable service celebrating a life lived can be a rewarding and healing experience for all those involved.
