ery friendly and nice to the customers by Nisha Kaminski on 6/9/2020

I went to this restaurant together with my friends. Honestly, we greatly enjoyed spending our time here, for the foods and drinks were yummy and OK. Besides, the waiters/waitresses that were working there were all very friendly and nice to the customers. The place was even clean, comfortable, and stylish, and it was perfect to visit again and again. Great service!

The Scene
When owner Michael McCarty opened his namesake establishment in 1979, it was like a whirlwind through the city's restaurant scene. The chefs in his kitchen were pioneers of what came to be known as California cuisine.… Read Full Editorial

Great date resto by robertwhite16 via Citysearch on 8/22/2011

I was a bit nervous to bring my girlfriend to this place. It has mixed reviews, it's either you'll love it or you'll hate it. I was hoping she'll love it, it's our anniversary and had to do something special for her. I made reservation to…

fancy by Ana B. via Judy's Book on 8/12/2011

fancy place me and my husband go there on special occasions the always treat us well. kinda pricey but once in a while it does not hurt to splurge.

the best scallops I've ever had by Amber5050 via Citysearch on 9/12/2010

This is one of my favorite restaurants, though I can't come often because its pretty pricey. Michael is sometimes at the restaurant and greets you in. The wine expert is so helpful and the service is impeccable. The dress code and crowd…

What? No free refills?! by Jill M via Insider Pages on 5/25/2010

This was another dineLA experience. Everything about this place was awesome -- the outside dining area, the food (Snake River kurobuta pork chops), the service. My only complaint was that they charged like $4-5 for a small diet Coke. It…

Michael's Restaurant is fantastic. by Mike H via Insider Pages on 11/18/2009

Sometimes you get what you pay for. This place is not cheap, but it's one of the best all around dining experiences in Santa Monica. The staff could not have been cooler and the food was amazing. Plus the place has a great name.

Michael's Restaurant is amazing! by Elizabeth T via Insider Pages on 11/6/2009

I took my boyfriend here for dinner and it was great. They have a huge selection of wine that ranges from stupid expensive to mildly affordable. We settled on a French Rose wine and it was very nice. We both ordered fish entrees and…

Nice Ambience, decent food But some great coffee by Nirali2009 via Citysearch on 6/4/2009

Michael's a great place for a romantic dinner but it more on the expnsive side. The food was decent but the presentation was lovely. \r \r Also, I must say being a coffee enthusiast the place served a great cup of coffee ! Idid some…

Nothing memorable... by traveler9 via Citysearch on 7/10/2008

There's really nothing terribly wrong with Michael's, but nothing stood out. Aging decor, plastic seats on the patio. I do not pretend to be a gourmet, but I do know when I'm dining on wonderful food. This restaurant does not provide…

Would not recommend! by stella21 via Citysearch on 11/16/2007

For what the prices are, the service was pretty bad. One of my favorite things to do is to go out and have a nice dinner. Of course it is at a cost but when I went to Michael's I was shocked at how we were treated. There was hardly any…

Very expensive dissapointment by monicatoyoda via Citysearch on 2/22/2007

Went with boyfriend for romantic dinner. Very sad to go there - wont go there again if I can help it. Service was very poor. Waiters were rude and quite frankly for a place like this I was shocked! Food was served cold - duck wasnt even…

Nice food with a lovely setting by so_adorable via Citysearch on 10/30/2006

I'd heard about Michael's for years - but since i was daunted by the price - i'd never consider it as an option... But when i saw it was a featured restaurant during the Dine-Out restaurant week, I jumped at the chance. The food was quite…

Amazing service, food and ambience ... at a price by triplejjj via Citysearch on 8/14/2006

I'd heard about this spot - just a half a block down from the Promenade across Wilshire - but never made a point to visit. Absolute gem, with a tree-filled patio and impeccable service. Menu was tasty meats and seafoods. But, expect to pay…

Worst Dining Experience Ever by cpq via Citysearch on 5/21/2006

We had a dinner party for 15 people for my wife's birthday. It was the worst restaurant experience I've had in my entire life. Service - terrible! They made us feel like they were doing us a favor by throwing us some dinner rolls every 1/2…

Elegant but Low Key by Helena L. via Judy's Book on 2/27/2006

This little restaurant is tucked away at the North end of the Third Street Promenade--I'd walked past dozens of times and never noticed it. But when some friends asked us to join them there I was surprised by the spacious, leafy patio out…

Expensive but worth it. by alliecat74 via Citysearch on 9/26/2005

Michael's has been on my "to eat" list for a while. It was definitely worth it!! Yes, the place is like walking into a time capsule from the 80's, but it has it's own bungalow-esque type of charm. Not to mention, the enthusiastic owner,…

Nice, but don't go there hungry! by mamba via Citysearch on 7/9/2005

Went for my hubby's birthday and sat outside- overall romantic atmosphere and attentative service. The food was excellent in taste, but portions were extremely small. We started with an appetizer, a few martinis and then entrees;…

Celebration Ruined by johnsmith23 via Citysearch on 6/13/2005

We went there to celebrate my 30th Birthday and were quite dissappointed with the overall experience. Dinner took over three hours and the service was non-existent. The food was bland and cold.

Too bad by kates_kid via Citysearch on 6/13/2005

After hearing rave reviews we were expecting a fabu experience. Not so. Don't get why people love the patio so much. Uncomfortable lawn chairs - portable heaters blowing on the tables. If it's cold enough for a heater perched near your…
