Richard de Asla, MD

Richard de Asla, MD, is a fellowship trained orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon.
Dr. de Asla’s team has over 50 years of combined foot and ankle orthopedic experience gained from some of the most recognized medical institutions in the country, such as the Massachusetts General Hospital, Johns Hopkins, and the Hospital for Special Surgery. His continued involvement in industry consulting, international medical journal review, and medical publishing place him at the center of current thinking in his subspecialty and supports an evidence-based philosophy to patient care. 
Dr de Asla began his professional pursuits at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), magna cum laude. His postdoctoral training included a General Surgery internship at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital, residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at University Hospitals of Cleveland, Case Western Reserve University followed by fellowship training in Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgery at The Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell University, New York, NY. 
For eight years, Dr. de Asla served as the Director of the Foot & Ankle Orthopaedic Division at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty from September 2004 until joining NCH in 2015.  During his time at MGH, Dr. de Asla performed the facilities' first-ever total ankle replacement surgery. 
Dr. de Asla is board-certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and a member of the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society. He is also the only Arthrex foot and ankle consultant in the Naples area and a reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. 
When he isn't developing treatment plans or augmenting his professional skills, Dr. de Asla enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. Outside the office, Dr. de Asla also enjoys traveling, cycling, music, boating, and photography.
As an orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon, Dr. de Asla practices evidence-based medicine.
