Akshita Kumar, MD

Dr. Kumar is a pediatric surgeon at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. She sees patients at the hospital’s main campus in St. Petersburg, Florida, and at Tampa General Hospital and HCA Florida Brandon Hospital. She joined the hospital staff in 2024.

She earned her medical degree from Texas A&M College of Medicine-Baylor Scott & White. She then completed a surgery residency at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. She also completed a Glassell Foundation research fellowship in children’s regenerative medicine in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UT Houston. She went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. 

Dr. Kumar’s clinical interests include pediatric cancer surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and neonatal thoracic and gastrointestinal surgery.
