Earl Lloyd, known as Big Cat, is one of the pioneers of basketball and one of the men who changed the game. His influence will continue to impact the game. Our goal is to pay homage to Big Cat, and keep his story alive.

Entertainment on the court began in 1950, when Earl Lloyd became the first African-American to play in an NBA basketball game. Earl Lloyd’s skill, style, and showmanship had never been seen before. Lloyd earned the nickname “Big Cat” when he scored 731 points in the 1954-55 season and became the first African-American to win an NBA title
