I became a doctor to walk patients through their health journeys, care for them in their best and most vulnerable times and build relationships. Primary care lets me build long-standing relationships with patients. I love the variety of internal medicine. There's lots of opportunity to specialize, but you need to master a wide breadth of knowledge in internal medicine. Mercy's 65 Prime+ is a care model developed specifically for patients 65 and up. Some can focus on prevention and wellness -- others are managing complex chronic conditions. Our model focuses on those specific needs. We'll have longer appointment times, so we have the chance to truly understand and meet their needs. The best part of medicine is the patients. For a physician-patient relationship to be successful, patients need to trust and feel comfortable with me. When patients open up and share their full selves, it's an honor and it's my favorite part of what I do.
