Bear Creek Herbary

ear Creek Herbary was opened by Ron Springer in 2001. The main structure, a large barn (pictured above), was erected in a single day through a traditional Amish barn raising. Bear Creek offers a unique experience beyond what you would find at a traditional garden center. Here is a summary of what Bear Creek has to offer:

The Barn

The large Amish-built barn contains a variety of unique gifts and decorations. Around the holiday season, the barn is truly a sight to be seen, with multiple themed Christmas trees, sparkling lights, and a large assortment of beautiful decorations.

The Greenhouse

Directly behind the barn is the main green house, which contains an assortment of premium tropical plants, trees, and potted arrangements. During the holiday season, the greenhouse is filled with poinsettias of many colors, sizes, and varieties.

The Tea Room

In a small building across from the barn is the tea room, which boasts an assortment of gourmet teas, exotic preserves and nut butters, and other treats. There is also a tea station where you can sample the various teas, or make yourself a cup of tea to sip while you stroll around the grounds. Besides the edible (and drinkable) goodies, the team room is also stocked with candles with scents for all occasions, from romantic to relaxing.

The Plants

Throughout the grounds, you will see a huge assortment of perennials, annuals, shrubs, herbs, and vegetables. The quality and variety of what you’ll find at Bear Creek will far surpass what you’ll find at Home Depot or Lowe’s, or even many other garden centers.

The Chicken Coop

Near the back left corner of the grounds is the newest addition to Bear Creek – a chicken coop! The chickens moved in just this past fall and should start laying their first eggs this spring. Ask an employee to help your children feed them some dried corn, or possibly the chickens’ favorite treat, an earth worm, if the kids can manage to dig one up!
