About this business

Our board certified physicians specialize in medical and surgical treatment of macular, retinal and vitreous disorders. We are focused on a broad range of conditions that include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachment, ocular infection, dystrophies, uveitis, and moreCapital Region Retina's highly trained staff, led by Jeffrey H. Stern, MD PhD, Hao Wang, MD and Michael D. Radosevich, MD PhD , are committed to providing excellent care to their patients and maintain a welcome and friendly environment. Cyotherapy: Method of freezing the outside of the eye next to retinal tear. The tissue bonds together sealing the tear.Scleral Buckle Surgery: Surgical procedure in which a flexible band (Scleral Buckle) is placed around the eye to keep the retina in place.Pneumatic Retinopexy: Procedure where a gas bubble is injected into the vitreous space to flatten the retina in a retinal detachment or displace subretinal blood. Laser or cryotherapy will also be applied in retinal detachment cases. Vitrectomy: Surgical procedure performed to clear blood or debris from the eye, to remove scar tissue, or to alleviate traction on the retina. Common surgies for vitrectomy include macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage (bleeding in the eye), advanced diabetic retinopathy, ocular inflammation or infection, and post-cataract events requiring retinal intervention. Photocoagulation Laser: Laser treatment uses highly focused beam of light that can be aimed precisely through the pupil to the retina. It seals leaking blood vessels and keeps abnormal blood vessel growth from spreading.Photodynamic Laser (PDT): This procedure is for vision loss caused by abnormal blood vessels called Choroidal Neovascularization. Visudyne is a light activated drug that is injected and travels to the abnormal tissues where it collects and activated by a non-heat producing laser which produces a reaction allowing abnormal blood vessels to close.Injectible Medicine: Medication is applied in or around the eye for the treatment of various conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, macular edema, and endophthalmitis. Medications include steroids, Avastin, Lucentis, Macugen, antibiotics, and others. Fluorescein Angiography: Special photographs used to evaluate intraocular bloodflow, vascular leakage, and ocular inflammation. A dye is injected into arm or hand and photos are taken before and after dye is injected. OCT(Optical Coherence Tomography): Non-invasive, non-contact imaging technique produces high resolution images of ocular structures.B-Scan: Diagnostic non-invasive two-dimensional ultrasound which help determine the composition and contours of ocular and orbital structures.Clinical Trials: Since we are committed to providing our patients with the most cutting edge treatment, Dr. Jeffrey Stern and Dr. John King are currently participating in clinical trials to bring macular degeneration treatments that are not yet available to patients here in the Capital Region; we also offer other clinical trials, such as treatments for diabetic retinopathy. If you think you may be a candidate or would like more information about the clinical trials we are now enrolling, please contact our office and ask to speak with our clinical trial coordinator or e-mail us at info@capitalregionretina.com
