Jeffrey M. Katz, MD

Jeffrey M. Katz, MD joined Northwell Health in 2006 and is the Chief of Vascular Services, Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center and Stroke Unit at North Shore University Hospital and is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.. Dr. Katz specializes in cerebrovascular disease and endovascular surgery. Under his directorship North Shore University Hospital received the Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center certification in 2014, the first such designation on Long Island. The hospital also has been awarded the American Heart Association’s Gold Plus Award for Quality on a yearly basis.

In a synchronized effort between the health system’s Stroke Task Force and the Center for Emergency Medical Services, Dr. Katz was integral in the development of the health system’s Stroke Rescue Program, which coordinates emergency transfers of stroke patients from neighboring health system and non-system hospitals to North Shore University Hospital for comprehensive acute stroke care. Dr. Katz and colleagues created the Northwell Health TeleStroke Program, a program which virtually places a stroke specialist in the emergency room of a community hospital using video teleconferencing; to perform emergent consultations regarding time limited acute stroke therapies. Dr. Katz is also the team leader representing Neuroscience in the health system’s Computerized Physician Order Entry initiative and is the lead author of many of the health system’s stroke policies and clinical guidelines. In addition, he is a member of many hospital and health system committees and sits on the New York State Department of Health Stroke Advisory Committee.

Dr. Katz received his received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He then completed his neurology residency and fellowships in interventional neuroradiology and vascular neurology, at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Katz has published numerous chapters and peer-reviewed articles and is a member of several professional societies, including the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology, the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Neurology.
