Reviews can be misleading, especially when the individual who needs the review coaches you on how important the review is and how she specifically needs the review written. I initially experienced a positive outcome after hiring Banks Cleaning service, but that preliminary impression did not last.
I originally hired Banks Cleaning Service to deep clean my entire home. I chose Banks, based on their positive Angie’s List rating. After arriving at my home with her husband, Marian comported herself with a high level of professional courtesy and competence. She did an excellent job by cleaning my entire home, top to bottom, wall to wall. By the time she had completed cleaning the entire home, she had worked for 12 hours and charged me only $500 for the entire home. She initially asked for $595, but agreed to $500. Through the course of the day, we discussed small improvements, which could be made to my home and through these discussions in passing; she mentioned her husband was a private contractor. Based on her completed cleaning work, I inquired further about her husband’s credentials and ability to successfully complete job. When asked, Marian effusively praised her husband’s work ethic and professionalism, describing him as, “a great contractor who everyone backs 100”. Based on her assessment and her previous completed work, I hired her husband to do a few small jobs.
He completed the small jobs very well, so I hired him to complete some work on a rental property I own. We agreed upon a deal which included, three separate payments during the course of the job, with him receiving payment after completion of segment of the job. He initially completed the first segment of the job in professional and timely manner. The second agreed upon segment of the job took a lot longer for him to finish; nearly a month late, with a series of excuses supporting the late completion. When it came to the final segment of the agreed upon job, Marian's husband purchased the supplies with the money, which I provided and completed none of the job. He left my kitchen renovation completely untouched, did not begin or complete the previously agreed upon carpet installation and became impossible to reach via phone, email or text.
When I contacted Marian and raised my concerns about the multiple delays and subsequent incomplete job, she began to berate me for asking her anything. She stated that she never wanted to work with someone like myself, implying that she only wants to work with affluent families. She added that she typically only works with individuals who live on the Main Line in the McMansions and that she was doing me a favor by providing her services. This statement along with the reality of the situation, that I could not trust her husband to successfully complete the job led me to cancel the project and hire another contractor to complete the job.
Though initially productive, working with Banks Cleaning Service wasn’t worth the unprofessional attitude, poor overall work ethic, verbal insults or belittling comments. Marian initially carried herself as an upstanding small business owner, but as time passed, her true character exposed itself. Do not hire this company.
