Our Alzheimer's and dementia living community has two neighborhoods, or wings, of the building, that afford resident socialization and individualized care, yet shield residents from large group interaction and agitating activity. These community features are rooted in the “Small House” model that has been found to be the most successful environment for providing that sense of home, connectedness, and ultimately, happiness. Research indicates that residents in small house communities were significantly more socially engaged and displayed fewer non-aggressive behaviors, such as wandering, than residents in larger, traditional settings.
