Kimiye R. Cabrera, MD - St. Joseph Health General Surgery

Dr. Kimiye Cabrera joined CHI St. Joseph in 2011, after spending six years in Chinle, Arizona. There, she was a surgeon for the Indian Health Service on part of the Navajo reservation. She was also Medical Director of the health service 's Breast Clinic. The daughter of two physicians, Dr. Cabrera grew up knowing she wanted to use her gifts to contribute to something bigger than herself. She chose to become a surgeon because she enjoys seeing people get better. With a father in the Army, Dr. Cabrera has roots in several places, including Oregon, Tennessee, South Korea and Texas. She and her husband met while receiving undergraduate degrees at Baylor, where she graduated first in her class. Her Medical Degree is from Oregon Health Sciences University, in Portland, and she completed her general surgery residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, in Lexington. When she' s not at work, Dr. Cabrera is a mom and wife. The Cabreras have two young boys whom she chauffeurs to taekwondo, gymnastics and violin. She likes to read and work in the yard and tries to get some skiing or snowboarding in once a year.
