Herndon Healthy Smiles: Joseph Alwan, DDS

Dr. Joseph Alwan is a general and cosmetic dentist at Herndon Healthy Smiles in Herndon, Virginia. His office offers a variety of services for the entire family, providing a pleasant dental experience for all his patients.
Born in Bechealeh, Lebanon, Dr. Alwan moved to the United States in 1993 where he pursued his studies and worked in different fields to support himself financially. In 1994, he attended Los Angeles City College and graduated in 1996 with a certificate in dental technology.
Soon after, he worked in dental laboratories as a dental technician and attended the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) where he earned his Bachelor of Science in neuroscience in 2003 and a Master of Science in oral biology in 2005.
In 2008, Dr. Alwan graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery. In August 2009, Dr. Alwan joined the U.S. Army where he served for eight years. He was stationed in several places in the U.S. as well as abroad. Along the way, he earned several certificates in dental education and commendations for his performance and hard work. Dr. Alwan completed his active duty in 2016 and moved to Virginia.
Dr. Alwan is a member of various associations, including the American Dental Association (ADA), the Virginia Dental Association (VDA), and the North Virginia Dental Society (NVDS). He’s also a member of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), and SPEAR Education: Innovation Dental Continuing Education.
In his free time, Dr. Alwan enjoys life with his wife and two children. He also gardens, loves photography, raises birds and fish, and enjoys biking, hiking, and weightlifting.
