Thornton Funeral Home And Cremation Center

The Thornton Funeral Home was founded in 1967 by Harry Wendell and Gertrude Lewis Thornton. Working together they had a vision to continue a career in which Wendell had started in 1947 at the former Johnson Funeral Home. Renovating of the former Upshur Lewis residence began in 1967 and was transformed into the present funeral home. Upon Wendell's death in 1968,the business was carried on faithfully by his wife Gertrude L.Thornton under the guidance of Barton D. Holland, III, who sacrificed to care for families in time of need. Upon graduating from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1982, Carl U. Thornton,and his wife, Shelley have continued the same tradition in funeral service care. The Thornton legacy of funeral service providers is now being continued by the addition of Sarah Elizabeth Thornton, the third generation who is now active in providing care to those families we serve. Being the oldest existing funeral home in Parksley, the Thornton family has continued to provide the highest quality funeral services to the residents of the Eastern Shore. Our family has continually strived to offer the most courteous, sincere and personalized services in the most cost-effective manner.
