Jonathan Collin, MD, practices integrative, alternative, and preventive medicine at his private practice, providing comprehensive services at two convenient locations in Port Townsend and Kirkland, Washington. He believes in integrating conventional medical treatment with alternative therapies so that each patient can receive truly individualized care and optimal health.
Patients who schedule a consultation with Dr. Collin are pleasantly surprised at the time devoted to listening to their concerns. Dr. Collin encourages patients to share their opinions as he works with them to find simple, less toxic, and highly effective treatment options.
Dr. Collin graduated from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, and then completed his internal medicine training at the United States Public Health Service Hospital in Staten Island, New York, and at the national leprosy hospital in Carville, Louisiana. He went on to finish postgraduate studies in nutrition and preventive medicine, ultimately completing a diplomate examination in chelation therapy with the American Board of Chelation Therapy.
Before starting his own practice, Dr. Collin worked as a practicing physician for the Well Mind Association in Seattle. He served as the editor of the newsletter of the Northwest Academy of Preventive Medicine and in 1983, he founded the Townsend Letter for Doctors.
As the editor-in-chief of what’s now known as the Townsend Letter, Dr. Collin continues to serve as the voice for alternative medicine. The magazine publishes scientific information on a wide range of alternative medicine topics, including EDTA chelation, a treatment effective in removing toxic metals like lead. He received a Doctor of Letters degree in recognition of his work as founder, publisher, and editor-in-chief of the Townsend Letter.
Dr. Collin was appointed to the US Congress Office of Technology Assessment Advisory Panel for the study of unconventional cancer treatments. The panel’s report to Congress in 1989 led to Congressional authorization and funding of the National Institutes of Health Office of Alternative Medicine. He served as an Alternative Medicine Advisory Panel member from 1991 to 1992. In 1996, the American College for Advancement in Medicine named Dr. Collin a Fellow for his outstanding contributions to the field.
Dr. Collin is married to Deborah Nissen-Collin and has two children, Affinity and Sam.
