Cactus offers generous, flavorful burritos, tacos, tamales, tortas and enchiladas. Diners order at the counter from a long list of fillings that include pollo asado, red or green mole, shrimp, carnitas, and the lighter but equally tasty… Read Full Editorial
Good food, not great by Zogsauce via Citysearch on 9/29/2010
The place has pretty decent food. It's not amazing, but it's not terrible either. It's convenient and quick if you want to grab a quick bite to eat. They get extra points for friendly service.
Cactus Taqueria by William H via Insider Pages on 8/6/2009
I have family that lives down the street and I try to make it down to Cactus every opportunity I get. The food is delicious and there's plenty of seating. Prices are reasonable and I'm a big fan of the salsas.
Great Mexican place; very family-friendly by Jennifer M via Insider Pages on 6/6/2009
This is kind of embarrassing -- I live in the Mission district, but one of my favorite Mexican restaurants is in Rockridge! There seems to be a bimodal distribution of Mexican restaurants in the Bay -- greasy hole in-the-wall or overpriced…
DEE-licious Mexican food by alingane via Citysearch on 1/12/2009
The food is unique, but also authentic. They serve a wide range of burritos, enchiladas, plus tamales, chile rellenos and more of the platos tipicos that you'd expect from a sit down restaurant in a fast environment.
Fast, Delicious, Reasonable by Kyoko R via Insider Pages on 7/31/2007
Pro: Fast, Delicious, Reasonable, family friendly\r
Con: parking, (could possibly be) long line.\r
Try their Mole sauce, as well as crispy chicken taco.
totally average at best. by g_peters via Citysearch on 10/14/2006
this place attracted my attention one day when i was getting off the BART. it was justs remodeled and it had the look of a really nice fast food place. naturally i had to try it but i was sadly disappointed. their food was mediocre and…
Free-range meat and tasty desserts! by Dani N. via Judy's Book on 6/8/2006
I love, love, love Cactus. I love anyplace where I can cram a healthy and fiilling burrito into my hypoglycemic eight-year-old for maybe three bucks. I love that they use Niman Ranch free-range hormone-free meat, and still only cost around…
good food, but overpriced and poor service by alyk via Citysearch on 5/13/2006
been going to cactus for 5+ yrs and the food just isn't worth the trouble any longer. the last 8 times we've gotten to go food, there has been a mistake.
Great quick meal by jcm55 via Citysearch on 4/25/2006
Cactus is my default location for a quick meal. It's walking distance from my house, and the price is right. Best fish tacos and fish burritos I've had anywhere. I see several negative comments about the service here, but I haven't had…
Awesome shrimp plate and flan by jessgopal via Citysearch on 2/22/2006
This is my favorite mexican place. You can't go wrong with anything you order. It's all really fresh. A little noisy and crowded most of the time, but food comes pretty fast. Try to get the flan when they first cook it and package it --…
Como se dice "grubbin' burritos"? by chula via Citysearch on 8/30/2005
I come here regularly, and now that I've gotten used to their burritos, everyone else's seem to be lacking something. I've never gotten anything but the "burrito mejor" so I can't speak to the quality of the other items. I always get my…

best in the bay hands down. i love this place and highly recomend to everyone.
Great for families by Brian B. via Judy's Book on 5/25/2005
The burritos aren't great, but they are very good. The carnitas doesn't melt in your mouth, the salsas aren't smokey perfection. If you're used to the best of the Mission, this is a pale shadow. 10 years ago (when they had the one location…
Best in the Bay by hjs5114 via Citysearch on 5/20/2005
I lived in Rockridge for three years. During that time I becamed hooked on Cactus Taqueria. The food is always fresh and tastes great, the portions are generous and the service always friendly to me. Now when I return to the Bay Area I…
I love Cactus. by Peter I. via Judy's Book on 3/23/2005
From my experience, you really can't go wrong at Cactus; however, the Shrimp Crispy Tacos and the Green Mole anything are particularly strong choices. If you haven't been there, it is definitely worth giving a try.
Hearty Burritos, Great selections by Dara R. via Judy's Book on 2/27/2005
Definetly the best burrito place in the East Bay. Fabulous choices of dishes and fillings.
no problems here by owenseightbal via Citysearch on 8/30/2004
I go to the new catus a couple times a month and have never had a problem with the staff. I wait in line get my tacos and go. I am not there to chat with the assembly line. I have only once had my order screwed up. They gave me prawns…
East Bay college kids swear by this small local chain that serves cheap, fresh, generous portions of Mexican fast food. by Contributor via Citysearch on 6/30/2004
The Scene
Long a favorite with families and college students, the cafeteria-style service is quick and kid-friendly. The place has a festive air, with wooden chairs and tables lacquered in primary colors, and the open kitchen…
Rude staff = no return business by pdevaux via Citysearch on 1/13/2004
The food at Cactus is tasty and relatively cheap, but the service is anything but stellar. Here's a hint for management: You're surrounded by many equally good burrito joints, so when your staff is surly and confrontational, don't expect…
Rude Service Has Driven Me Away by lupina via Citysearch on 10/27/2003
I used to be a Cactus regular, eating there at least twice a week. Ever since they moved to their new corner location, however, I have been sorely disappointed. The food quality has gone down, but the thing that is keeping me from ever…
