Mijares is a big, bustling hacienda-style restaurant that's been part of the Pasadena dining scene for the better part of a century. It's a family-owned business, and many of the recipes used today are those that Jesucita Mijares… Read Full Editorial
Loyal to Mijares by Charlie B via Insider Pages on 1/28/2010
Mijares is a Pasadena Institution. Love their food. This place is ususally bustling. Don't come here if you want quiet and intimate.- Mijares is better for family gatherings and other group get-togethers. Try the juevos con chorizo.…
Very satisfied! by audone via Citysearch on 1/10/2010
We had scheduled a party in their banquet room. Maria was very helpful in helping us arrange everything. For a group of 60, it was perfect! The room is small and cozy, which kept it personal. We chose the chicken fajitas and carnitas…
Overpriced, below average, mexican food by bigrob40 via Citysearch on 7/10/2008
I ate there and ordered the steak fajitas. I have eaten many fajitas at many other establishments and this one at Mijares by far is the smallest and most expensive one I have ever had. After I ate it I was still hungry and went to…
Great standby by anekab via Citysearch on 11/20/2007
The things I like about Mijares include their margaritas, their friendly staff, and the patios. I've dined here for dinner with my husband...had cocktails with a small group of friends, and enjoyed large family functions. I've also had…
Terrible food, overpriced, not even close to authentic Mexican cuisine! by ziadollface via Citysearch on 9/17/2007
I took two friends from out of town to this place upon the recommendation of my husband. He hadn't eaten there in several years, but I figured it would be fine. I was so embarrassed. These two people had never been to Los Angeles before…
Rather eat Taco Bell by victoratomic via Citysearch on 4/19/2007
Well we decided to try this place on a whim and it was not worth it. This restaurant is not athentic, its more of a El Torrito type restaurant. My Cheese and Chicken enchiladas were very tasteless, sauce was bland, chicken was dry as well,…
Why bother? by D. R. H via Insider Pages on 1/8/2007
I came because the margaritas had been highly recommended; I left disappointed.\r

Yes, the margaritas are strong, but not particularly flavorful. The chips are tough and boring. My fish tacos were very tasty, but the vegetables they…
Locals drain margaritas in a festive cantina. by Contributor via Citysearch on 12/11/2006
In Short
From the neon Corona sign to the bulk-quantity chips and salsa, Mijares looks like the set of some 1970s Univision movie and represents the quintessential SoCal taqueria. There's nothing fancy here, and that's the point.…
Excellent Mexican Restaurant by mitchell s via Insider Pages on 8/20/2006
The margaritas are great and so is the guacamole (the large guacamole easily feeds 6 people as an appetizer). The ribeye stake with shrimp is delicious and the kids dishes are very well served. The ambiance for dinner is very nice and the…
Fun for a company outing by M A via Insider Pages on 5/14/2006
Mijare's is a fun place for a company outing - it is festive, the margaritas are good, and there is plenty of space for a large party. The food is decent, too.

Save your money and time by buenosdiaz02 via Citysearch on 2/15/2006
I grew up eating traditional mexican food --went to Mijares and was extremely dissappointed --first clue should have been how enourmous the place was--everything about it was bad, food, service, cost. Worst place I've ever eaten in…
Perfectly average Mexican food by whats4dinner via Citysearch on 2/3/2006
The margaritas are strong and the food unmemorable, which seems to be a pretty common combination in LA.
That's not to say that the food is bad. It's perfectly ordinary, unobjectionable Mexican food -- the kind you can get at dozens of…
My favorite place for casual dining by stanford65 via Citysearch on 11/14/2005
My family has been coming to Mijares for over 35 years and never gets tired of it. Pasadenans know it is a great place to come with children are young, for large groups, for diner on the patio. Love the George's Special margarita -…
Had an awful time here! by lilgourmetdiva via Citysearch on 10/30/2005
If it wasn't for my dining companions I would've left this restaurant before we sat down and ate somewhere else. I couldn't believe how rude both of the hostesses were. It got me so mad how we were treated I lost my appetite. Our waiter…
Great Tortilla Soup and Outdoor Dining by gragegrl via Citysearch on 6/27/2005
This place has wonderful Tortilla Soup and the outdoor patio can't be beat. It's a great local place. The other dishes are pretty basic Mexican, not that there is anything wrong with that. If you're looking for nouveau, California-Mex than…

Mijares is so good. I always get one of their salads when I go there and they have the best chips and salsa in town.
