In Short
A long, wooden bar dominates the front room, flags and photos hang on the walls. This bar draws locals during the week and turns into a mixed party on weekends. The crowd is decidedly younger and livelier than its… Read Full Editorial

North Star Cafe is like a trusted friend by Juniper N via Insider Pages on 12/22/2009

I love to pop in here on a North Beach pub crawl. It is a low key place, often crowed. The bartenders are good at quickly serving new people as they come up to the bar even when it is packed.

North Star Cafe is a great sports/dive bar! by Leah D via Insider Pages on 7/10/2009

An awesome little dive bar in North Beach with free popcorn and great drink specials. Great place to watch a game and if its not one of the many surrounding TVs, just ask and bar tenders are super flexible. By the way a great place to…

fun but cramped by audreyjl via Citysearch on 9/13/2007

i always like this place, but i've yet to go there when it's not totally packed and hard to move. get there earlier to actually get a spot at the bar or be able to play pool. fun music and fun scene, very collegeish atmosphere.

Cool place. Drinks are very reasonable and the staff is really friendly. Not a ton of talent here but some here and there. Overall, a fun place just to chill and have some drinks. It can get pretty crowded around 11-12 on Fridays,…

A good bar by tildenm via Citysearch on 8/19/2003

Pretty good all-around bar, and if you are in the area, a nice place to stop in. Very good for meeting up before you go to a nearby dance club. The crowd is good, the service is attentive and good.

a good dive is as good as its regulars by pizzymcgith via Citysearch on 6/3/2003

and this place knows it. they make efforts to take care of the folks that are nice to them and others. just a great dive bar. occasionally has great bands like whiskey pills and the pbr street band - because they're regulars too.

Northstar- my home by rayzeets via Citysearch on 2/26/2003

Never have I known a bar that makes me feel more at home- it is like a little community within the walls. The management offers trips to games, skiing, concerts- they run fun contests too. They often have fun, free live music. They ask…
