We are not just a ski town! People might come for the winter, but they stay for the summer. We are a year-round resort community that just happens to include a ski area as part of the fun. Over 85% of the County is National Forest, Wilderness or other public lands. Much of the private land is still held in working ranches protecting unspoiled vistas.

In our valley there are two incorporated towns, the historic mining town of Crested Butte and the ski mountain community of Mt. Crested Butte, as well as a number of small neighborhood communities. Offerings of vacant land range from residential lots to 35+ acre estates. Improved properties are as diverse as a condominium on the ski slope, a classic downtown Victorian, a golf course townhome or a luxurious Rocky Mountain log home.

Our K-12 school achieved Colorado's highest rating for overall academic performance for the High School and a high rating for the lower grades. The high school has an overall academic performance record of, "excellent" on state assessments! Many families are moving permanently to Crested Butte for the small town living, relaxed pace, fine educational opportunities and strong sense of community

Cultural Events
Crested Butte has the longest continuously running community theatre in Colorado. We are home to the Crested Butte Music Festival with year round performances of national stature. The Center for the Arts also hosts a summer outdoor concert series (pictured here) along with ballet, theatre and many other performances. Crested Butte is also home to the Festival of the Arts, one of Colorado's finest outdoor juried art festivals, celebrating its 36th year this summer.

Recreation
Yes, in the winter we have downhill skiing and boarding at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort, but did you know that the Nordic Center sets over 40 kilometers of groomed trails and runs the ice arena? With so much to choose from, it's like having a second ski mountain.

In the summer,take your pick of many different activities: hiking, climbing, backpacking, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing, world-class fishing, tennis, golf, rafting, kayaking, boating, jeeping, horseback riding and nature walks.

Wildflowers
We are officially designated the Wildflower Capital of Colorado. Join us in July for the Wildflower Festival or anytime to enjoy flower coverd hills. Another great way to capture views of these multi-colored wildflowers is by hiking over Maroon Pass to Aspen and back.

No matter what the season, there is always beauty in the mountains.
