Carlos A Salgado, MD

Carlos A. Salgado, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist at Baptist Health Brain & Spine Care | FIU. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry, child-adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry, he provides care to individuals across the spectrum of life, from young children to older adults. Dr. Salgado’s clinical interests include complex diagnostic evaluations, trauma-informed care and holistic psychopharmacology that considers developmental, environmental and psychosocial factors. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Salgado is actively involved in medical education and faculty development. He serves as associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral health at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He is also director of medical services of the FIU Center for Children and Families and founding program director of the child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Citrus Health Network, in partnership with FIU.   Dr. Salgado earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. He completed a general psychiatry residency and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He also completed a forensic psychiatry fellowship at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. Dr. Salgado is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and member of several other professional societies. Dr. Salgado believes in delivering thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care that honors each patient’s story, values and goals. His approach emphasizes collaboration, clear communication and respect for cultural and developmental context. He advocates for shared decision-making and prioritizes providing clear, accessible information so that patients and families feel confident making informed choices about their care. He strives to foster trust, reduce stigma and support patients in becoming active participants in their mental health journey. Dr. Salgado is fluent in English and Spanish. When he is not treating patients or teaching, Dr. Salgado finds inspiration in photography, architecture and design and marvels at the way geometry, function and light come together to create harmony in spaces. He also gains a fresh perspective when he dives into topics like technology and innovation and feels rejuvenated when he spends time cycling and traveling with his family.
