Melvin Makhni, MD

Dr. Melvin C. Makhni is the Director of Complex Spine Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Trained in both orthopaedic and neurosurgical aspects of spine surgery, he uses advanced minimally invasive, microscopic, motion-sparing, ultrasonic, and computer-assisted techniques to optimize patient outcomes.
Dr. Makhni treats the full spectrum of spine conditions, including degenerative disease, scoliosis, and spinal deformity. A fellowship-trained spine surgeon, he is on faculty at Harvard Medical School and on staff at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He has published extensively, collaborated with Major League Baseball on athlete spine research, and serves on advisory panels for national spine societies.
