North Rivers Lodge

Nestled within the Manistee-Huron National forest in the heart of North West Michigan's Blue Ribbon Trout Stream country, North Rivers Lodge is situated on over a quarter-mile of the wild and scenic Little Manistee, or "Little River" to the locals and affectionately known as "The Little Man" to the angler. The classic architecture and rustic charm of our early 20th Century cedar log cabins hearken back to a simpler time when sportsmen would retreat to Michigan's northwoods and rivers to seek solitude through wilderness getaways to fish, hunt and explore. Today, the tradition continues as a destination for both families and sportsmen for relaxation and recreation. The resident trout population, both then and now, makes for outstanding dry fly fishing. Spectacular rainbows, well-fed browns, and vividly-colored brook trout can be watched from the cabins every evening as they rise to the prolific insect hatches which sustain the exceptional trout fishery that is the Little Manistee. In the Fall, great migrations of King and Coho Salmon move up the river, followed by the Steelhead run which continues through the Winter months and peaks in early Spring. Early Spring hatches of stonefly, mayfly and caddis start the trout season in dry fly fashion and summer hatches keep the trout looking up and feeding well, all the way into Fall. Fly fishing schools and casting lessons are available for groups, or private casting lessons can be made by appointment. Guided fishing trips can be arranged by reservation. The famed Pere Marquette River is 10 minutes south, the fabled Manistee River is just 20 minutes to the north, headwaters of the swift and scenic Pine River are just 5 minutes to the east, and the classic Hex waters of the Big Sable River are just a short drive to the west. Public access is generous. Paddlers of all skill levels, whether fast-paced kayakers or the more traditional canoeist, will find their challenge by taking advantage of the natural resources in every direction throughout the Lake Michigan watershed. True river country! North Rivers Lodge is also surrounded by miles of trails for the hiker, mountain biker, ATV/ORV rider. The Winter's groomed trails are a top destination for the snowmobiler. The trails are accessible directly from the lodge, so no need to trailer up and drive to the trailheads. There is also a place here for the cross-country skier and snow shoer as well.
