STATE FARM IS HORRIBLE by nickblanchmn on 10/24/2020
State farm is horrible to work with whenever you have a claim, but they will gladly take your money and "review services" once a year to make more money from you.
In 11 years owning my home and having homeowner's insurance through them, I have filed two claims. The first was after a well documented hailstorm went through my area in 2014 and damaged my roof. All my neighbors got new roofs from their insurance. State Farm would only cover half my roof.
Just this past August, we had a severe lightning storm with hundreds of lightning strikes in town including one direct hit of a transformer right down the block from my house. The local energy company had power back on in just a few hours but I had a living room light that stopped working. Since that time, an exterior motion light also stopped working and many lights around the house would have a small flicker when turned on.
We had an electrician come and check things out and he confirmed that it could have been from lightning. $10,000 in total repairs to fix the issues and upgrade the system with better grounding and surge protection and State Farm will do NOTHING to make me whole. Why the heck do I even pay for insurance??
Oh, they had their lackeys at a company called Strike Check come out and with barely doing any tests on the electrical system in my home declare the issues "wear and tear" to get State Farm out of having to cover it.
Bottom line, my home's electrical system worked fine before a documented lightning storm. My home's electrical system did not work properly after the storm. State Farm shirked their responsibility to cover damages caused by this storm.
We pulled all of our policies immediately. Lesson learned. DO NOT TRUST STATE FARM to do anything but take your money!
