The tradition of making quality spirits from local ingredients and bringing traditional family moonshine recipes to life. We are proud to say that Bald Hills Distillery is producing the first legal alcohol in our area for nearly 100 years. Our distilled products are based on straightforward, authentic moonshine recipes that are pleasing to both novice and experienced palates. We built our distillery on a family-run farm with a commitment to source our ingredients from Pennsylvania farms. Our distillery continues a tradition based on the earliest days of settlement in Pennsylvania. In the 1800s there were dozens of distilleries scattered throughout Dover Township, Pennsylvania, making the corner pub and handcrafted spirits a local tradition. When prohibition began in 1920 the nation "dried up," but Dover Township would continue to be a dry township until 2011. The moonshining culture of making bootleg alcohol flourished during this time and the mountain area known to local moonshiners as the "Bald Hills," was their beloved headquarters. Jim Runkle, our head distiller and co-founder, has learned how to make old-school moonshine and is now perfecting his product using our authentic copper still.
