In 1984, Lewis Leatherman saw a need for a tax preparation and bookkeeping service for the citizens of his home town and the surrounding area. Wanting to fill this need, he formed Leatherman Tax & Bookkeeping in Saginaw, Texas. His idea was to provide quality tax preparation and bookkeeping service to individuals and small to medium size businesses at affordable prices.

In order to continue to provide the quality of service his clients deserve, Lewis regularly attends continuing education classes to stay abreast of the latest in tax law changes. He also passed the required testing to become a Certified Tax Professional (CPT) and later achieved the status of Certified Practitioner of Taxation (CPTx), a designation of individuals who exhibit a high level of skill mastery in the area of taxation.
