Mama Capparelli Began More than One Tradition by IMJS on 3/15/2021
As a child I used to pass by the original Capparellis on Nacogdoches at 410 on the way home from school. It's no longer there and in its place stands a Bill Miller's Restaurant. The year was 1972 and I was in the seventh grade. We were dirt-poor and my eyes trained on the "HELP WANTED" sign in the bottom right of the window by the entrance. I took a chance and applied for a job but I was only thirteen and too young.
Years passed, I grew up and joined the U.S. Air Force. That same dusty sign was still in the same spot in 1987. Now I had a job and could afford to eat there. My little family grew up eating there regularly. When they shut the doors and opened on Broadway and 410, we continued our tradition of eating at Capparellis weekly until that location closed.
Later,, we discovered the location on 1000 Oaks. My two sons really enjoyed the House Salad with extra olives and the Spaghetti and Meatballs. Capparellis had simply become a family tradition.
Time passes so quickly and now the boys are grown and the wife has passed. But I discovered the Capparellis on 3009 a few months ago and now have begun a new tradition with my grandchildren.
The children's menu is awesome and priced reasonably. The food has not changed. It's just as delicious today as it was when I was young, could walk without a limp and had 20/20 vision.
