Kevin W. Overstreet was born in Wichita Kansas in 1963, and grew up in the Ft. Worth, Texas area. He moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1984 where he joined the Amarillo Police Department. He was elected president of his graduating Police Academy class.
In 1991, Kevin accepted the Chief Deputy position for the Childress County Sheriff's Office. In 1995, Kevin was appointed Sheriff by the Commissioners Court of Childress County. He ran unopposed in 1996 and left mid term to take a position with the Lubbock County Sheriff in 1999 as the Internal Affairs Sgt.
This was the first Internal Affairs office for the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office in its history. Kevin supervised, and managed that office for serveral years. Durning the course of his Interal Affairs duties, Kevin worked many administrative cases, ranging from officer shootings to complaints filed by citizens.
In 2002 he was promoted to Administrative Lieutenant where he continued to oversee The Office Internal Affairs, including Courthouse Security, Communications, Records Division, Fleet Operations, Training Academy, Grants, Safety, and Worker Compensation issues for the Sheriff's Office.
In December 2004, He was appointed by the County Judge as Lubbock County's Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator. In November 2005, he was promoted to Captain, where he supervised the Law Enforcement Division, to include Patrol, Warrants, Narcotics, Criminal Investigations, Swat Team, and Bomb Squad.
In 2006 Kevin was recruited by the Lubbock Police Department, and appointed by the County Judge and Mayor of Lubbock, to head up the Emergency Management Office for the City and County of Lubbock.
Over the course of Kevin's career, he has recieved 9 Departmental comendations, including 3 safe driving awards. In 2004 Kevin was voted superviser of the year. Addtionally, Kevin has invesitgated and testified in hundred's of cases over the years, some of which were high profile murder cases, and has testified as an expert in latin finger prints comparison.
Kevin entered the private sector in 2009 and soon opened his Private Investigation Firm in Lubbock Texas. Kevin maintains and currently holds an active Masters Police Commission, and Instructor’s license from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education.
In January 2012 Kevin was elected by business owners in Lubbock to the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau.
Kevin is a former Board member of the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission, and the Childress Mental Health Advisory Board. Most importantly, Kevin and his famiy are members of Indiana Avenue Baptist Church.
