About this business

Karl G. Maeser was the spiritual architect of Brigham Young Academy, now Brigham Young University. The first building on upper campus, it functioned as the school's administrative center until 1961. During World War I soldiers of the Student Army Corps were housed there. (President Ernest L. Wilkinson discovered that his office was the same room he had bunked in as a soldier!) The building underwent a major restoration in 1985, and everything but the original walls were taken out. The interior was rebuilt and the Maeser Lecture Hall was restored to its original beauty. The Karl G. Maeser Memorial Building is now the home of BYU's Honors and General Education Departments.
