Organ Cave

Organ Cave is a commercial cave that has been open since 1822. It is the second longest commercial cave on the east coast. According to the History Channel, we have over 70 miles with 200 leads yet to be mapped & surveyed. We have fossil hunts, 13 different caving expeditions with climbing and crawling and we furnish the helmets, lights and knee pads snd gloves plus we have three regular walking tours all with a guide. We have a campground for RV camping. We have a gift shop plus ice cream and drinks. There is a play area for the children and picnic tables with a shelter for picnics. Organ Cave houses the largest collection of Civil War hoppers for minning salt petre in the USA. This is known as Robert E Lee's underground ammo factory. This is where the first prehistoric sloth was found in America. We have fossil hunt tours also. We have found shark fin spines in the cave along with many many other fossils. The regular walking tours are based on Creation. The cave has also housed Native Americans. We have several artifacts on display in the gift shop about our local history. The cave is a National Natural Landmark plus A National Landmark of Historic Places and is on The Civil War Trail. It has been feautured on the History Channel on the "Cities of the Underworld". We are open Monday Through Saturday from 10 AM to the last tour at 4 PM.
