The Samples
Our DNA extraction methods will utilize buccal swabs for all tests. A buccal swab, also known as buccal smear, is an efficient and highly convenient way of collecting DNA from the cells inside a person’s cheek. Compared to other extraction methods, buccal swabs are a relatively non-invasive way to collect DNA samples for testing. The samples can be mailed to the laboratory and remain stable for weeks at room temperature.

The Technology
Personalized Genetic Testing uses equipment and technology from Thermo Fisher Scientific, a leading provider of pharmacogenetics testing in the US. They provide equipment and supplies for rapid and cost-effective laboratory research solutions, and technologies for the screening of polymorphisms and the discovery of novel variants.
Our technology utilizes the combination of TaqMan Assays with QuantStudio 12K Flex Real-Time PCR System. The high throughput via OpenArray formats of this setup enables analysis of common variants to be completed in under four hours. Furthermore, the technology provides the flexibility to modify array content, simple workflow, and screening of known mutations, in order to implement the right platform for answering a specific medical research question during any stage of the analysis.

When she founded Personalized Genetic Testing as both Company President and the Head Lab Technician, Ms. Borodowsky already had extensive experience in the management of private laboratories. Backed with over 20 years of experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, hematology, flow cytometry, clinical molecular biology, immunology and chemistry industries, Irina is an accomplished professional with well-honed expertise within the clinical and medical research fields. All former laboratories through which she has performed her research have benefited under her direct management not only due to her comprehensive training but also the detail-oriented approach to gathering accurate information, applying necessary procedures and personally ensuring the efficient completion of every task and project.
Credentials: Ms. Borodowsky is a Medical Technologist with five Florida licenses (Molecular Pathologist, Chemistry, Immunology/Serology, Blood Bank and Hematology). She holds a BS of Science in Biology from the University of Havana, Cuba. She also has a Medical Technologist license from American Medical Technologist (AMT).
