Boasting a population of 754,885 (as of 2008), Columbus is Ohio's most populous city and the 16th-largest city in the United States. In 1816, Columbus assumed the role of Ohio's state capital. Today, Columbus is the third most populous state capital in the United States. Columbus resides primarily in Franklin County, where it serves as county seat. However, parts of Columbus also fall into Delaware and Fairfield counties.
