Stockton is located in the central part of California, lying at the lowest point of the San Joaquin Valley. Boasting a population of 290,409 (as of 2009), Stockton is the thirteenth most populous city in California and the 61st-largest city in the United States. The San Joaquin River connects Stockton with the San Francisco Bay, which makes the city one of California's only two inland sea ports (Sacramento being the other). Stockton lies in San Joaquin County and serves as county seat.
