Call previous employers. Ask for information about the applicant even tho most only share dates of employment.
Ask for personal and business references. CALL THEM. Drug screening, background check.
Search social networks and see what they do in "spare time". Are they are someone you want representing your company?
Know the job before you interview. Interview only on the essential skills. Watch for the value versus the cost an employee can bring.
Daily Overview: Don't find out all of your employees faults later. Screening applicants can save you lots of time and aggravation.

The Small Business tips today will be about your company's website and the important information to have on it.
First thing first: get a website! Preferably your own domain name. Having a website is cheap!
Place your most important information front & center. You want that to be seen first, without scrolling or clicking.
Don't bury your information within your site. Make it all accessible with just a couple of clicks.
List your contact information. Be obvious and consistent: footer and "contact" link in your navigation to start.
Daily Overview: Simple is better so keep it that way. Have a website and be straight forward with your info. Your internet presence depends on that.
