Small Biz Tip: New Employee Orientation

Tips from June 9, 2009

The Small Business tips today will be about ways to orient new employees on their first day of the job.

  1. Utilize your time with the new employees by putting yourself in their shoes. Think about what questions you would have for a new employer, and be ready with the answers
  2. Establish the company culture with the new employees.  Educate them on your company’s policies, rules, company background, goals, and environment.
  3. Introduce your new employees to co-workers and give them a tour of your office.  This will allow them to have a chance to establish familiarity with their new surroundings.
  4. Give the new employees time to let everything sink in on the first day.  Bombarding them with too much information will leave your new employees overwhelmed and anxious.

Daily Overview: Orientation is vital to ensure all new employees have the information and resources they need to start at a new company on the right foot.
